I have been posting how we humans attempt to solve the mysterious events and happenings in life. One way to try and solve these mysterious is through Literature and the Arts. Homer’s two key writings are the Iliad and the Odyssey, where he portrays the two main Homeric themes of honor and virtue. The Homeric poems concern our Morality Need <-—> Natural Moral Code. The Iliad pertains to events in the 9th year of the Trojan War. It involves the retrieval of Helen who was captured by Paris and begins with the withdrawal of Achilles from fighting in the Trojan War. The Odyssey is a celebration of the homecoming of the Greek hero Odysseus. It is an epic poem about Odysseus after the fall of Troy and his struggle to return home. Both poems involve timeless themes related to the human traits of courage, loyalty, survival, passion, love and hate. Western Civilization has been greatly influenced by the writings of Homer. We owe a lot to Greek culture and the Hellenistic civilization that vigorously questioned everything in order to understand the mysteries of the natural and human worlds.
